Welcome

I’m Katie, a designer based in New York specializing in Retail Design. I have a degree in Architecture from the University of Virginia and have spent the past 15+ years working in house for storied brands such as Louis Vuitton and Diane von Furstenberg designing and building their store networks. in 2017 I founded the Store Development department at Alexander Wang and lead the design of new concepts for retail, outlet and pop up locations, expanding the store network for nearly 6 years. My consultancy, Analog launched earlier this year and is aimed at bringing the commercial strategy, high end design and resources to brands at all stages.

#notforconstruction

“There aren’t enough people out there that are worried about old buildings.” - Tanya, the white lotus

Like many during these covid years, I’ve found myself taking on some exciting personal residential projects and wanted to find a creative way to share the process and work that goes into it. Thus, #notforconstruction, the blog, was born. Knowing ‘just enough to be dangerous’ this is my first foray into residential design, detailing, materials and layouts. Follow along here and on social for updates!

As someone who has built an entire career on ‘disposable’ architecture - retail stores are renovated on average every 7 years- it may come as a surprise that personally, I love old spaces with a history and level of craftsmanship often not found today.

The first project is an A-Frame, built in the 1970s. This iconic architectural typology is nestled amidst vineyards, orchards, farms and fishing towns, its a special area with amazing sunsets making it truly special.

The second project is an old farmhouse right in the heart of Southampton. It was likely built just before 1800 and is historically landmarked. It has original fireplaces and flooring that is in shockingly good condition for 225 years.

Stylistically, these two projects could not be more disparate, but my approach to design is less about owning a personal aesthetic and more about creating a distinct vibe suitable for that space. I’m excited to honor the historic details of both spaces, their context and blending them with the serene, monochromatic vibe perfect for a home away from home.

Stay tuned for more details on our plans!
